In Case You Missed It
America has ended all trade negotiations with Canada, reportedly over an advertisement featuring former President Ronald Reagan criticizing tariffs. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said that Canada is prepared to “resume trade talks when the Americans are ready”.
In a new Labor Department report, inflation hits 3% for the first time since January last month—but still remains lower than analysts had anticipated. The Federal Reserve is set to vote on its next interest rate cut in a few days.
New York Attorney General Letitia James has pleaded not guilty to federal charges of bank fraud and making false statements to a financial institution, one of many lawsuits levied with the backing of the president as he pressures the Justice Department to go after those who have drawn his ire.
On Thursday, the Senate rejected a plan to pay active-duty members of the military and select government workers for the duration of the federal funding lapse. Lawmakers voted 54-45 against advancing legislation from Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.).
