Government Relations Updates
It was quiet this week in the Commonwealth as the PA House is working behind the scenes to hammer out the details of the budget. The Senate is expected to be in session this afternoon and remain through the weekend to finalize the legislation. Philadelphia also saw a cool-down—in weather and in events—after one of the city’s biggest weekends ever. Cultural institutions saw a record-breaking number of visitors during 4th of July celebrations, and the World Cup match between France and Paraguay drew a crowd of 68,000+ fans.

Congress has only a few more days in session before its 5-week summer recess begins. The GOP’s priorities have taken major hits, and they’re moving at a glacial pace as stalemates on the floor keep legislators from any real movement on bills. We break it all down in this week’s Compass.
In Case You Missed It
The Election Assistance Commission is without its leaders heading into the midterm election as Trump ousts two Democratic commissioners and a Republican resigns from the board. The EAC handles training election officials and keeps states up to date about the latest voting technology, as well as oversees testing and certifications for voting machines.
The House is set to take a vote next week on making Daylight Saving Time permanent, a priority for some southern state Republicans in the chamber.
The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Bill, a piece of bipartisan housing legislation, is set to become law at midnight, even as President Trump refuses to sign it. The housing bill aims to make homeownership more affordable, primarily by encouraging homebuilding across the country.
Another heat dome is looming, and most of the lower 48 will experience temperatures 15-25 degrees Fahrenheit higher than normal.
